The Macedonian capital of Skopje was the third destination on a study trip for Coalition members, following our visit to Sarajevo and Belgrade. In Skopje we were received by activists from Peace Action, Albulena Karaga and Boro Kitanoski, who travelled to the city from nearby Prilep especially for the occasion. From them, the Ukrainian human rights activists heard how to work with oral history in order to contribute to peace after an armed conflict.

Peace work in Donbas should start already now, even though the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine is not yet over. The work of human rights activists is not done once the war is formally settled. Quite to the contrary, from this moment on, active work towards a reunification of society just begins. These are the conclusions reached by representatives of the Coalition “Justice for Peace in Donbas”, who took part in a study trip to the Western Balkans.

Presentation of the study "The real price of coal in wartime Donbas: a human rights perpective" will take place on Tuesday, March 28, at 18:00 in the White Hall of the House of Cinema in Kyiv. The publication was prepared by the NGO "Eastern Ukrainian Center for Civic Initiatives" and the Coalition "Justice for Peace in Donbas" supported by Ukrainian office of Heinrich Böll Foundation.

Representatives of the Coalition ‘Justice for Peace in Donbas’ have recently met with the representatives of more than 20 delegates of European diplomatic representations and international organizations. Along with the partners—The German Russian Exchange (Berlin) and Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (Warsaw)—the representatives of the Coaltion outlined current human rights situation in Donbas.

The two-day strategic planning of the Coalition ‘Justice for Peace in Donbas’ has finished on Tuesday, February 7. NGOs – members of the Coalition have defined six main areas of work for the current year and shared responsibilities.

Eastern-Ukrainian Centre for Civic Initiatives under the auspices of the Coalition "Justice for Peace in Donbas" conducted monitoring of gender-based violence in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine, focusing particularly on such cases happened in illegal detention facilities. As a result of the monitoring, which lasted from spring 2014 to winter 2016, a report was prepared to the 66th session of the CEDAW.
